Maintenance
Make an account register before a website takeover
A site takeover can stall because nobody knows which account controls the domain, hosting or email. The first job is often an account register. It should identify owners and recovery routes without becoming a document full of passwords.
Record responsibilities
List the domain registrar, DNS provider, hosting, publishing system, source repository and any essential integrations. For each one, note the organization's owner, who has administrative access and how recovery is controlled. Use role-based company access where the provider supports it.
Separate access from ownership
A developer having a login does not mean the business can recover the account. A Colombian organization should retain control of its billing, recovery email and critical provider relationships. Access needed for maintenance can be granted privately after scope is agreed.
Check before replacing
Determine where current uploads, customer records and scheduled jobs live. A source-code copy may omit all three. Ask what the backup contains and whether restoration has been tested. Do not assume a new hosting account can replace the old one safely without a data plan.
Use the register to identify gaps before scheduling a release. CISA's password guidance offers basic account-protection advice; each provider's recovery process still needs checking. A bounded takeover review can produce a clear next-step list before ongoing support begins.
